Reserve 1/2 (Half) English Translation If you are interested in translations of PC98 games, please consider supporting my Patreon or donating via Paypal! https://patreon.com/nana_vs_nana Paypal: nanoqo@gmail.com *********************IMPORTANT NOTE*********************** This game requires the use of the 'kana' key to input Japanese characters to access a secret menu. In Neko Project II (recommended), by default the Right Alt key is reserved for toggling kana mode. In Anex86 and other emulators, you may have to manually assign this key. ********************************************************** Contents: 1. Installation 2. Translation Notes** 3. Installation ============================================================ This translation was created in the form of a Lunar IPS patch file. You will need a copy of the original ROM/backup of the floppy disk for Reserve 1 to make this work. The backup I used was in .fdi format. 1. Open Lunar IPS, and select 'Apply IPS Patch.' 2. Navigate to the folder where "Reserve_HALF_ENG.ips" is saved, and select this file. 3. In the bottom right-hand corner of Lunar IPS, choose the drop-down menu that says "Most Common ROM Files," and change this to "All Files (*.*)". 4. Navigate to where your ROM of Reserve 1/2 is saved, and select this file. For example, your filename may be "Reserve 12 (19xx)(MIN)(JP).FDI". 5. Once patching is completed, start up your emulator of choice (My personal recommendation is Neko Project II), and insert Disk 1 into drive A, and Disk 2 into Drive B. 6. Enjoy! Version 1.02 of Lunar IPS was included with this translation, but you will need to get your own copy of the game to patch it with. Please contact me if you have any questions or trouble getting this game to work. I can create a copy of the patch specific to your ROM, or point you in the right direction to finding a copy of the game. ============================================================ 1. *Translation Notes* ============================================================ Thank you very much for downloading this translation! I think Reserve 1 & Reserve 1/2 make a great set together, so I'm very glad that you decided to check them both out. And if you haven't played the first game yet, please do so! They make a great combination. I love the dynamic of playing a regular enemy from the first game, and reversing the roles with the monsters. As for the translated content of the game, unfortunately a couple of liberties had to be taken to have the game function in English. Primarily, that every character with lines of dialogue in the game must have their name shortened to five characters or less, or else it won't display properly. Out of pure luck, every character in the previous game had a name shorter than five characters in English. That was not the case this time. Two in particular that I'd like to talk about are the main character and the main antagonist. The main character's name in Japanese is こうもり女, which quite literally translates to "Bat woman." As she is just a regular enemy in the first game (though also my favorite one), I didn't want to rename her to the point of rewriting the game, but rewording a multi-part name like "Bat woman" in five letters is quite difficult. While the top runner-up was "Batti," I decided to go with "Bat♀". This was not only able to fit nicely under 5 letters, but has a slightly quirky feel to it, like the original Japanese. (However, if people prefer, I can change it to Batti, or something better if you have an idea...) The main antagonist on the other hand, "Lucifer" in Japanese, I renamed to 'Satan' as it fits the five letter requirement, and arguably is the same character name. Of course, the connotation is still slightly different, but I decided it had the same punch, and was still more effective than just shortening the character's name to "Lucif." In addition to that, the enemies this time around were humans, and many of them granted proper Japanese names in kanji. As names occupy the same space as combat menus, I decided to keep the character names in full, alongside writing out in full any interesting combat options while shortening the mundane ones that appear on every character. Here's a quick guide of those shortened body parts. Hd - Head Fc - Face Ch - Chest Ft - Feet Finally, did that secret text at the end sound interesting at all to you? Maybe if you were to search it on youtube... ;) ============================================================ 3.
