Installation/Running ============================================================ This translation was created in the form of a Delta patch file. You will need a copy of the original ROM/backup of the floppy disk for Melpool Land to make this work. The backup I used was in .fdi format. 1. Open 'DeltaPatcherLite.exe'. 2. For the 'Original File' tab, select your copy of Melpool Land. I have seen many different romanizations of this game's name. For example, your filename may be something like "Merupu Rurando (1995)(Compile).fdi". 3. For the 'XDelta patch' tab, select the included file, "Melpool_ENG_Patch.xdelta". 4. By default, this patcher checks to make sure it has the right file before patching, so it shouldn't break anything. However, if you would like to save a backup of your original file, click on the little 'gear' icon and choose to create a backup. 5. Once patching is completed, start up your emulator of choice (My personal recommendation is Neko Project II), and insert your patched game into Floppy Disk Drive 1. 6. Enjoy! Version 2.0 of Delta Patcher Lite was included with this translation, but you will need to get your own copy of the game to patch it with. Please contact me if you have any questions or trouble getting this game to work. I can create a copy of the patch specific to your ROM, or point you in the right direction to finding a copy of the game. ============================================================ 2. *Translation Notes* ============================================================ Thank you all very much for checking out Melpool Land! This is my fourth finished PC98 translation, and while there is admittedly a very small amount of text in the game, I think it was an interesting challenge to translate, and a pretty fun and unique game to start with as well. The concept of the game is pretty simple: You play as one of Melpool Land's 'tough guys' (original Japanese: 'those who take pride in their strength'), and you are in a tournament to come out on top. You fight with a couple of magic orbs that you can push in front of you as an attack, and your goal is either to knock out or push your opponent off of the stage. It is very short, but it has some great music and graphics to go with it, and I think rather cute characters as well. I highly recommend giving this game a shot in MULTIPLAYER mode however, as it's much more fun with another person. I think this would actually be a good game to introduce friends to the PC-98 with, so I encourage you to try it out! (And please let me know how it goes.) As for the translation, thanks to game not accepting half-width (see: regular English) characters and the original game having a rather small space to store dialogue, almost every single line in the game had to be manually repositioned in game code, and then reformatted to appear in the right place in the game itself. The game code was also somewhat inconsistent with how this worked, meaning I ran into some unexpected problems later on, and had to reconsider how to fit text in. I think this is most clear in the ending sequences, where I was limited to 3 lines of text per slide, and only 23 characters per line. Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy the game! ☆NANA☆ KNOWN BUGS: --I did not translate the calligraphy text that appears at the end of a match, nor the character names written in katakana that appear underneath character portraits during fights. If I figure out this image format in the future, I will go back and fix this, but I don't think it detracts anything from the game itself. If you find any typos or other bugs, please let me know via email! I'll do my best to get it patched immediately. ============================================================ 3.
